What is an online psychotherapy like ?
After I received your message, I will get back to you and offer a free 20 minute introduction call.
If you desire, you can use this time to get to know each other, discuss your needs, and answer all the questions you might have. You can then take the time you need to see if you feel comfortable with your therapist and decide whether you'd like to start a therapy together or not. However, you can also decide to book a full consultation right away.
At the moment, a Psychotherapy online in Germany is only allowed and refunded by insurance if the first session has been done face to face in my practice in Munich. However, online counseling is allowed without having to meet first.
If you choose to start therapy, I will send you a secure Zoom link to join the private session. The sessions have to take place via a secure platform with data encryption to ensure the security of your data and the confidentiality of the sessions.
What is important is that you have a place and a moment during which you feel safe, free to speak, and will not be interrupted or fear being overheard.
The process of therapy remains the same online or in person. The first sessions consist mainly in the evaluation of your situation, then therapy begins. You will get about 50 minutes with your therapist in a private and safe setting to express and explore everything you wish to, and where the sole focus is your well-being. Unlike other medical appointments which can be impersonal and expeditious, a therapy session is the opportunity to take a moment dedicated only to yourself, and build a non-judgemental and authentic relationship of help and care, on which you can rely for as long as you need.
The lenght and frequency of therapy will depend on your request, your needs and your financial means. It is also likely to evolve according to progress. In any case, you are always free to express your needs or request changes. If something does not go as you wish, we encourage you to express it so that your therapist is aware and can adapt the therapy according to it.
Is online therapy effective ?
Many studies have been done on the topic, which show that psychotherapy is as effective online as it is in person. What the last 50 years of studies on the effectiveness of psychotherapy have found, is that the most important factors of success in therapy are : the quality of the relationship you have with your therapist; and their qualifications in the field, regardless of their theoretical orientation.
Whether your therapist uses CBT, psychoanalytic psychotherapy, a humanistic approach, or an integrative approach, studies have found them equally successfull, as long as the quality of the therapeutic relationship between patient and therapist is present.
Meaning that what is most important is that you feel comfortable with your therapist, and can express yourself openly, safely, without receiving any judgement, and build a relationship of trust and benevolant care over time.
